Join
us on Canada Day 2012 in Abbotsford

History will be made this year when Abbotsford hosts the Provincial Heritage
Fair. On Friday, June 29, Minister of Lands and Forests Steven Thomson welcomes
students from across the province and opens the Fair. On two days of our
"history summer camp" students will visit various heritage sites such as the
Sikh Temple, Sto:lo Longhouse, Stave Falls Hydro Centre, the Langley Farm
Museum, and Fort Langley and take a trip on a paddlewheeler up the Fraser River.
But the big day is Canada Day.
Imagine 65 students and 12 adults from across British Columbia wearing bright blue t-shirts marching beside the Heritage Fair float in the host city's Canada Day parade singing "Teaming Up the Cariboo Road". Then moving to the nearby Cadet Building for an opening ceremony led by a piper and Sumas elders surrounded by a showcase of student projects.
Enjoy our students' pride in their learning and discover the richness of Canada's heritage as these young storytellers share their outstanding history projects with the general public and each other. Come and join us on Sunday, July 1. The parade is from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and the student exhibition is open from 2:00 to 5:00 pm with opening ceremonies at 2:30.
