Day 4 - Last day!

Can't believe it's the last day before we travel back home! Also can't believe the kids are finally getting tired :)

The morning began with an exciting ride along the Fraser River in a paddle wheeler. The tour guide was very informative and the lunch was fantastic!

Fort Langley was next, with a tour of the national historic site and the farm museum. It seems like most kids enjoyed the candy store the most!

Dinner was at the spaghetti factory, followed by a night of speeches and final goodbyes.

See you tomorrow!

Day 3: Happy Canada Day

"When you hear that whip a-poppin"
Thank you to the city of Abbotsford for coming out to see us march in the Canada Day parade! And thankfully some of us remembered the words to the Caribou Road song :)

"What happens in the cadet building..."
After a relaxing lunch outside, it was time for the project showcase. After a wonderful opening ceremony, co-MC'd by our very own Alumni Monica, students stood by their projects and shared their research with the public and their peers.

"Swimming, soccer and fireworks, oh my!"
After a quick dinner, we headed to the rec centre for some swimming, then back to the College for some soccer and treats. We could just see the top of the fireworks behind the trees, and celebrated with glow sticks and freezies and watermelon.

Canada Day Parade!

Best seats in the house - Seven Oaks Mall! There will be a grAndstand there.

Stop #3: Sto:lo Longhouse
Sanjeev: "The dance and art stuff was good, the hoop dance. The carving was good, making the little carving."

Stop #4: The Reach
Niall: "It was good, but it was a long day."

Evening festivities

Everyone had tons of fun in the evening of our first day in Abbotsford. After some insightful speeches from our Provincial Fair leaders, it was time for games!

Led by our fearless Alumni leader, Evan, we played a bunch of games:
Capture the Flag
Cones
Nametags
Evolution Rock Paper Scissors

And let's not forget pin trading! Some people's lanyards are already covered with pins, and it's only the first day!

Dinner Time!

Here is the Richmond-Delta group having their first meal in the wonderful cafeteria.

On the menu:
- salad
- roast potatoes
- roast beef
- corn

Tasty, good, mouthwatering, and scrumptious are words that the kids have used to describe the meal.

Here we go!

On our way to Abbotsford! To pass time we have been having some super fun but super hard canadian-themed 20 questions games.

From the BC Heritage Fair Society Newsletter - June 2012

Join us on Canada Day 2012 in Abbotsford
image
History will be made this year when Abbotsford hosts the Provincial Heritage Fair. On Friday, June 29, Minister of Lands and Forests Steven Thomson welcomes students from across the province and opens the Fair. On two days of our "history summer camp" students will visit various heritage sites such as the Sikh Temple, Sto:lo Longhouse, Stave Falls Hydro Centre, the Langley Farm Museum, and Fort Langley and take a trip on a paddlewheeler up the Fraser River. But the big day is Canada Day.
Imagine 65 students and 12 adults from across British Columbia wearing bright blue t-shirts marching beside the Heritage Fair float in the host city's Canada Day parade singing "Teaming Up the Cariboo Road". Then moving to the nearby Cadet Building for an opening ceremony led by a piper and Sumas elders surrounded by a showcase of student projects.
Enjoy our students' pride in their learning and discover the richness of Canada's heritage as these young storytellers share their outstanding history projects with the general public and each other. Come and join us on Sunday, July 1.  The parade is from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and the student exhibition is open from 2:00 to 5:00 pm with opening ceremonies at 2:30.
